The Purpose of Tutoring
- Tutoring is not teaching but a process of helping a student develop the skills necessary to become an independent learner and develop the skills and the attitudes that lead to success.
- While the goal of tutoring is to enhance academic achievement, A tutoring session involves more than just academic concerns.
- Tutors must be sensitive to the feelings and needs of their tutees since many students come to tutoring with feelings of defeat, frustration, and apprehension about their ability to succeed.
- A tutor can take on some of the functions of a counselor and friend by reassuring tutees, empathizing with their feelings, and praising their efforts.
- A tutor while working with a student in a particular subject area, must
- maintain contact with the classroom instructor, parent and Center tutorial supervisor,
- Report on student progress, and
